The other day I saw that everyone was posting something about this Mexican food restaurant on Facebook. So I decide to give it a shot, I was at the phoenix library and figured I’m close by so I will stop by…
FOOD: C+
Don Jose’s which is located in Phoenix on 37th street and Thomas has been around for years but I have never visited this establishment. It has been closed for the past three years and apparently was resurrected just recently. I get there and it was pretty busy for lunch time. The hostess said I could sit anywhere so I spotted a table that would be perfect for me to take good pictures of the inside without causing a scene, because one day I will be famous for this and want to remain anonymous. I ordered a lunch combo with a green chili burrito, rice and beans. They bring me chips and salsa at this point. The chips were ok they were soaked in grease; it looked like they weren’t laid out on a towel to absorb the grease. The salsa had a good taste but was more like tomato sauce; it really had no heat to it all but none the less very flavorful. I get food and I decide to try the rice and beans first. The rice was homemade and was very refreshing since recently all I have been getting is subpar rice. The beans were also homemade but really didn’t have a distinct flavor. The green chili burrito was unfortunately not very good; it was homemade but once again was very bland and had not a lot of flavor. Everyone says they are known for their enchiladas, next time I will have to try that.
PRICE: $
All together my food was $8 for chip salsa, drink and a burrito with rice and beans.
CLEANLINESS: A
The tables were clean and the floors were clean as well a clean establishment.
OVERALL: B-
Overall I give it a B and I recommend this restaurant for a great date night or for lunch hour delight. Locations and contact information for the restaurant is located on the menu. Make it a great day and eat well, you deserve it.
